Biography

Dr. Deepa Srivastava joined UC ANR as the Nutrition, Family & Consumer Sciences Advisor for Tulare-Kings Counties, California. She provides oversight to two federal nutrition education programs that apply behavior and policy systems and environmental change principles to promote healthy eating and physical activity among low-income population. Her extension and research work is largely focused in the areas of childhood obesity prevention and food security. Specifically, her research focus is understanding the role of early childhood education programs and parents on children’s healthy behaviors in early childhood settings. As an Extension professional, she is involved in planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs addressing nutrition education needs and promoting community engagement. She obtained her PhD in Human Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska with a specialization in the area of transdisciplinary childhood obesity prevention. She is currently serving in the ANR’s strategic initiative panel of Healthy Families and Communities.
